What is Cyanotype?

Cyanotype is a non-toxic photographic process that produces a cyan-blue print using UV light. Negatives, stencils, or objects are placed on top of a sheet of photo sensitive paper and exposed to UV light. Areas hit with direct UV light become a beautiful cyan color in the, whereas areas that were blocked during exposure remain paper white.  Engineers used this photographic process well into the 20th century as a simple & low-cost process to produce copies of drawings, referred to as "blueprints".

In this workshop artists will learn the process of preparing cyanotype paper and create different materials to be used to produce a photogram or contact print. Batches of pre coated cyanotype paper will be supplied and after a brief demonstration of exposing participants will create a small series of cyanotype prints. A subsequent demonstration of monoprinting will be shown for those interested in further developing their prints.

Any cancellations will be reimbursed minus a $40 nonrefundable deposit up to 5 days prior to the workshop start date.
