Etching Workshop

Etching workshop sessions are every Tuesday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. There is a limit of 5 participants per session. Ink, newsprint, zinc plates and acid are supplied by the shop, and printing paper is available for purchase. May Roded monitors the session and is on hand to teach artists new to the medium.

Etching is an intaglio process.  The etched plate is made of zinc or copper.  The artist draws through a waxy substance coating the plate to reveal the metal underneath, then etches the plate in acid.  The plate is then cleaned and ink rubbed into it.  The ink sits in the recessed etched areas, and the surface remains clean.  The plate is then passed through a press with paper placed over it, transferring the ink from the plate to the paper.

Single sessions are $50, or sign up for four for $180. Tuition includes all materials except printmaking paper and zinc or copper plate, which are for sale in shop.
