Monoprint, often called the painterly print, is a print made by applying ink and stencils to a plexiglass plate and then transferring the image to a piece of paper. This workshop is open to the beginner to advanced level printmaker. Alongside the basic introductory techniques of additive and subtractive processes, where ink is added onto the matrix through painting or rolling and can also be wiped away or removed with solvent or hand wiping. An alternative method such as paper litho, chine colle or other special process is also demonstrated.

Plexiglass plates, ink, newsprint, brayers, rags, and drawing tools are supplied by the shop. Printmaking paper is available for purchase. An experienced printmaker monitors the session and is on hand to teach artists new to the medium the basics or more advanced techniques, handle paper, and operate the press.

You can see many monoprints and images of the class and artists working in the studio here on our blog.
